Controlling Garden Pests with Cedarwood Oil

Controlling Garden Pests with Cedarwood Oil

Written by: Lauren Pelayo

While we all enjoy the pleasures of nature in our backyards or gardens, unseen invaders like ticks and mosquitos can be quite the nuisance. Between the incessant itching from mosquito bites or the presence of fleas on our furry friends, pests can easily rob the joy of time spent outdoors. Pesticides can sometimes provide quick relief but at a cost. Most conventionally used pest control products can be harmful to our environment, wildlife, and to human health. To control the presence of these pesky critters, especially fleas & ticks, we recommend our Cedarwood Oil oil product.

America Natural Cedarwood Oil

Cedarwood is an essential oil extracted from the wood of the tree Juniperus virginiana L. Like most of nature’s brilliance, Cedar trees produce this oil to protect themselves from bugs and other pests.  This product is used as a repellent and feeding depressants to control moths and fleas and can retard the growth of mildew. According to the EPA's R.E.D. Facts sheet “It is a mixture of organic compounds and considered Generally Recognized as Safe or GRAS.”

Cedarwood Oil carries a “pleasantly earthy smell,’ according to Issaquah Cedar and Lumber.  Its natural earthy aroma is known to keep away stubborn pests like fleas and ticks, which can be known to carry Lyme's disease.

Cedarwood oil acts fast to prevent pests in your yard. Spray your lawn thoroughly after a fresh trim and every other morning or evening to achieve the best results. Cedarwood oil kills pests upon contact here’s how it works:

  1. Kills pests on contact—substance leeches moisture from pests and suffocates them.
  2. Disrupts the pheromones to disorient pests
  3. Can dissolve the exoskeleton
  4. Breaks down fats through emulsification
  5. Neutralizes acidity in pests
  6. Kill on contact and also works as a repellent
  7. Nontoxic and does not affect beneficial insects

Unlike most pest control products our Cedarwood oil is clear of harsh chemicals which can be toxic to not only the earth but the people and wildlife sharing the earth with us. We all love a green lawn but want to steer clear of polluting it with toxic chemicals. According to the National Coalition for Pesticide Free Lawns reports of commonly used pesticides 19 are linked with cancer or carcinogenicity, 13 are linked with birth defects, 21 with reproductive effects, 26 with liver or kidney damage, 15 with neurotoxicity, and 11 with disruption of the endocrine (hormonal) system. Pesticides have been recently linked to attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children.”

Gardening is not a difficult process but there is a lifetime's worth of knowledge to learn. Maintain a peace of mind by keeping the grass trimmed low followed by a thorough spray of Cedarwood Oil. This preventative treatment will avoid exposure to toxic chemicals as well as nasty bug bites. Cedarwood Oil is diverse in that it can be used to replace pesticides while also acting as a bug repellant for people and for our furry friends.

When it comes to nurturing your land, it’s best to turn to natural products. The goal should be to keep away unwanted pests while making room for the earth to be nurtured by the proper insects that allow soil to thrive. Cedarwood Oil honors that by repelling unwanted pests like ticks and mosquitos while also being nontoxic to beneficial insects like honeybees.

Maintaining the health and appearance of your lawn/garden shouldn’t mean putting yourself and the life around you at risk; it shouldn’t cost too much either. At American Natural we believe in bringing quality products at an affordable price. Whether you’re maintaining your garden, managing crops, enjoying the outdoors or keeping your furry friends safe, Cedarwood oil has a place in everyone’s lives.
